ABUS cranes support the expansion of the Vekoma campus
Attractions that move – with crane solutions from ABUS
When the target audience screams with delight or their hearts almost stop from fright, then Dutch company Vekoma has done everything right. To enable customers to continue increasing their appeal, the roller coaster manufacturer is now building its new campus in Vlodrop, the Netherlands – a major project for the long-standing innovation leader in attraction construction. Founded in 1926, the company is known worldwide for developing and producing innovative attractions that are used in leisure and theme parks such as the legendary Six Flags in North Carolina, Disneyland Paris, Thorpe Park in Surrey, Fantawild Wonderland in China and Movie World in Queensland, Australia, thrilling millions of visitors. Vekoma's roller coasters and attractions are renowned for their quality, safety and innovative strength. From family rides to the latest high-tech roller coasters and thrill rides, the company sets new standards in the design and production of attractions.
With the expansion of the new site, Vekoma is pursuing its goal of further modernising its production and preparing for future growth. The crane solutions from ABUS Kraansystemen B.V., the Dutch subsidiary of the German parent company ABUS Kransysteme GmbH, play a central role in the new production halls.
Lifting with a system: ABUS crane systems in use at Vekoma
The production facilities play a crucial role in the manufacture of the attractions that the company supplies to its customers worldwide. The process includes the production of roller coaster tracks, trains, drive systems and other large components. These must be precisely assembled and tested before they are delivered to the amusement parks.
As part of its site development, Vekoma has therefore integrated five single-girder overhead travelling cranes and several single-girder semi-gantry cranes from ABUS into its new production infrastructure.
-
Single girder overhead travelling cranes
with a span of almost 28 metres, enable comprehensive coverage of the halls with lifting capacity – a decisive advantage when handling large, heavy and complex components.
-
Single girder semi-goliath cranes
offers additional flexibility at hall level and are particularly useful for precision work, such as the assembly of trains and other highly developed mechanical systems.
The robust and energy-efficient systems contribute significantly to increasing the efficiency of production processes and reducing throughput times. Thanks to these cranes, Vekoma can continue to meet the stringent requirements of its customers worldwide and deliver products of the highest quality.
Shaping the future – sustainably and reliably
In addition to technological requirements, Vekoma also focuses on sustainability. The entire campus was designed according to environmentally friendly criteria. The crane systems supplied by ABUS fit seamlessly into this concept: with durable components and energy-efficient operation, they support the company's sustainability goals and contribute to reducing its ecological footprint.
A strong foundation for innovation
The new production environment forms the basis for Vekoma's continuous innovation. Whether family coasters, exciting thrill rides or 4D theatres – the manufacture of these customised attractions requires the highest precision, flexibility and technical reliability. ABUS lifting technology is an essential part of the production chain.
The Vekoma Campus is not only a new centre for the international leisure industry, but also an impressive example of how advanced crane technology and industrial production can go hand in hand. The combination of state-of-the-art technologies, robust production facilities and advanced cranes enables Vekoma to maintain its leading position in the world of attractions while further increasing its productivity and efficiency.
